Holy Week in Seville is one of the great celebrations of popular Catholicism in the world, a time during which the city immerses itself in an aura of sombre passion for seven days. Learn all about the pasos, floats carrying lifelike statues portraying the events of the Passion and the cofradias, the religious brotherhoods that organise the famous processions. You will also visit the workshops of some of the craftsmen who spend all year preparing for this week. The 90-minute tour starts with a visit to the Church of San Julian, a magnificent Gothic-Mudejar temple, which has a beautiful altarpiece with a carved image of the Immaculate Conception. Next we'll visit the workshop of Rodriguez Ojeda, foreman of the brotherhood of La Macarena, where you can admire some magnificently embroidered vestments. We'll also pass by the Church of Omnium Santorum, one of the oldest in the city, pretty much unchanged since the Middle Ages. We'll also visit the workshop of a maker of religious images before we move on to the Church of the Annunciation, which was the university's chapel until 1965 and you can admire its extensive library and impressive façade as well as the awe-inspiring altarpiece. The tour ends with a walk around the outside of beautiful baroque Church of Salvador. A knowledgeable local guide will provide you with snippets of intriguing information throughout.
