During summer daylight hours more 2,800 cubic metres of water thunder over the brink every second, travelling at 65km/h. Nowhere can you get a more vivid sense of what this means than standing almost within touching distance as the heaving torrents come crashing down about your ears. In winter, the falls present a radically different but equally spectacular picture – huge sheets of ice and stunning icicles make up a dramatic frozen landscape.
